2023 wasn't the "rainbows and unicorns" year many operators had hoped for. However, there were some improvements in rental rates and occupancy. Interestingly, the rental rates continued to grow, despite decreased inquiries for self-storage. Perhaps the dwelling Europeans are simply becoming more decisive?

Technological innovation is hitting self-storage in a big way. Moving away from in-person interactions and transitioning to online sign-ups, a massive technological change is gaining momentum. Brace yourselves, folks; the era of two-factor authentication for facility access and electronic locks is here!

Not to forget that sustainability has also apparently wormed its way into the self-storage operation. Solar panels? Electric car charging stations? LEDs? Construction material source considerations? Well, it seems as if this industry has a greener future.
